Flex PCB Prototyping

TL;DR

A flex PCB prototype is a low-quantity flexible circuit built on the same production line and materials as volume so design validation transfers with zero re-qualification.

FlexiPCB ships 1-8 layer flex and rigid-flex prototypes in 24h express / 48-72h standard, no MOQ, with a free DFM review inside 2 hours.

The prototype's job is to surface bend, impedance, and assembly risk before tooling, so quoting the exact production stackup matters more than shaving a few dollars off a one-off.

Send Gerbers plus the bend radius and finished-thickness target with your prototype RFQ so the first sample is production-identical, not a generic test board.

Rapid Flex PCB Prototyping Service

FlexiPCB's prototype service bridges the gap between your flex circuit design and volume production. Every prototype is fabricated on the same production lines, using the same polyimide materials (Shengyi SF305, Dupont AP, Songxia RF-775), and tested with the same AOI and flying probe equipment as our mass-production orders. This means zero re-qualification when you scale — your prototype IS your production sample.

Why Prototype with FlexiPCB?

24-Hour Express

Industry-leading turnaround from confirmed order to shipped board. Don't let PCB lead times slow your development schedule.

Zero Re-Qualification

Prototypes built on production lines with production materials. When you move to volume, there's nothing to re-qualify.

Free DFM Review

Every prototype order includes complimentary design-for-manufacturing analysis. Catch issues before fabrication, not after.

No Tooling Fees

Direct LDI imaging means no film tooling charges for prototypes. Change your design as often as needed with zero additional cost.

Send This With Your Prototype RFQ

Production-intent data lets engineering quote a production-identical sample, not a generic test board.

Gerber or ODB++, layer count, finished flex thickness target, and the production stackup you intend to scale to

Bend radius, static versus dynamic flex, and the mechanical envelope the prototype must fit

Surface finish, stiffener locations, coverlay color, and any controlled-impedance layers

Prototype quantity (1+ accepted), required turnaround tier (24h / standard / economy), and target ship date

Whether the prototype must be qualification-grade and which reports you need (flying-probe test, AOI, COC)

What You Get Back

The response is written for engineering and procurement validation.

Free DFM review within 2 hours flagging bend-zone, coverlay, stiffener, and panelization issues

Committed lead time by turnaround tier with the build constraints that drive it stated explicitly

Quotation with no MOQ, no film tooling fee, and clear cost drivers for finish and layer count

Production-identical prototype with 100% flying-probe and AOI test plus a full test report

A clean path to volume: the approved prototype stackup transfers to production with no re-qualification

Is your flex prototype really identical to production, or just a representative sample?

It is the same part. Prototypes run on the same production lines, with the same polyimide laminates (Shengyi SF305, Dupont AP, Songxia RF-775), the same coverlay and finish, and the same AOI and flying-probe test as volume orders. The only difference is panel quantity and the use of direct LDI imaging instead of film tooling, which is why there are no tooling fees on prototypes. Because the stackup is identical, your approved prototype becomes the production sample with no re-qualification — the failure mode of cheap broker prototypes is exactly that the production part differs.

How fast can I actually get a flex prototype, and what blocks 24-hour turnaround?

Simple 1-2 layer flex with standard finish ships in 24 hours express; 48-72 hours is standard, 5-7 days economy. What pushes past 24 hours is build complexity, not our queue: multilayer or rigid-flex needs sequential lamination cycles, controlled impedance needs TDR coupon testing, and hard gold or selective finish adds a plating step. We confirm the achievable turnaround in the DFM review within 2 hours of file upload, so you get a committed date before you order, not an optimistic estimate.

What should I send to get a useful prototype quote with no MOQ?

Send Gerber or ODB++ files, the finished flex thickness target, layer count, bend radius with static-versus-dynamic flex, surface finish, stiffener needs, and the quantity you want — even if that is one piece. Tell us which turnaround tier you need and whether the prototype must be production-identical for downstream qualification. A complete package lets us return the DFM review, a committed lead time, and pricing without assumptions, and lets us flag any bend-zone or impedance risk before you spend a fabrication cycle on it.
