No. A 200-piece pilot run is a normal fit when the RFQ includes Gerber or ODB++, BOM, assembly drawing, enclosure data, and test procedure. We normally start from 5 engineering samples, then move to 100+ pilot builds and 10,000+ repeat production after the fixture and BOM are approved.

What lead time should procurement plan for samples and production?

Plan 7-15 business days for samples after data freeze and component availability, and 15-30 business days for production depending on BOM risk, enclosure readiness, and FCT fixture complexity. Long-lead connectors or unapproved alternates can dominate the schedule more than PCB fabrication.

How do I verify a box-build supplier understands IPC-A-620 and UL-758?

Ask the supplier to separate board workmanship, cable workmanship, wire recognition, and FCT evidence in the quotation. IPC-A-610 should cover the PCBA, IPC-A-620 should cover cable or harness work, UL-758 should be referenced for recognized wire material context, and reports should match the drawing.

Should I choose box build or buy the FPC, cable, and enclosure separately?

Choose box build when connector fit, cable exit, enclosure clearance, labeling, programming, and FCT all affect acceptance. Separate sourcing can work for simple bare boards, but integrated modules usually need one owner for fixture assumptions, substitutions, first article review, and shipment documentation.
